Omron VFD Fault E07 — What It Means

On Omron 3G3MX2 series drives (which are Omron’s rebranded Yaskawa-OEM variable frequency drives), fault E07 indicates overcurrent — the drive detected output current that exceeded 200% of the rated output current (instantaneous overcurrent threshold). The drive trips immediately to protect the IGBTs and output circuitry. E07 is a hardware-level trip that responds to instantaneous current spikes, unlike the overload (E05/OL1) which responds to sustained over-current over time.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Apply LOTO and inspect output wiring — Disconnect the motor cable at the drive’s T1/T2/T3 output terminals. Check all three output cables for signs of insulation damage, burning, or contact between conductors.
  2. Megger test motor and cable — With all connections open, perform a 500V insulation resistance test between each conductor pair and from each conductor to ground. Values below 1 MΩ indicate a fault in the motor or cable.
  3. Check for mechanical jam — Manually rotate the motor shaft or the driven load. It should turn freely without excessive resistance. Remove any mechanical obstruction.
  4. Test acceleration time — If the motor and cable test clean, increase the acceleration time parameter (b1-09 / C1-01 in 3G3MX2 notation) and retry. A longer ramp prevents current spikes during acceleration of high-inertia loads.
  5. Check output wiring torque specs — Loose output terminals cause arcing that can generate momentary shorts. Tighten U/V/W (T1/T2/T3) terminals to Omron’s torque specification.
  6. Reset and test at low speed — After repairs, cycle power (or use the STOP/RESET key), run the drive at 10–15 Hz (low speed) with no load first, then gradually increase speed and load.

Need Replacement Parts?

Before ordering, match the drive part to the model number, electrical rating, and failure symptom. Check current prices on Amazon - prices and availability change frequently.

When to Call a Pro

If E07 persists with the motor disconnected (fault on no-load), the drive’s IGBT output stage has failed and the drive requires component-level repair or replacement. Contact Omron service or a certified VFD repair shop.
