Common heat-related VFD and servo-drive failure point.
Useful when the drive display or controls fail.
Price this on braking, deceleration, and overvoltage faults.
Fault PF on a Yaskawa drive (A1000, V1000, GA700, GA800 series) stands for Input Phase Loss. The drive’s input monitoring circuit detected that one or more of the three input AC phases (R/L1, S/L2, T/L3) is absent or significantly unbalanced relative to the others. The drive trips to prevent the DC bus capacitors and rectifier diodes from being overloaded by single-phase or unbalanced input.
| Part | Notes |
|---|---|
| Input fuses (class J or similar) | Match voltage, ampacity, and interrupt rating for the drive kW |
| Main contactor (3-pole) | Replace if contacts show burning or one pole fails to make |
| Input terminal block | Replace if terminals are corroded or cracked |
When diagnosing VFD faults, always check the drive’s fault history before resetting. Modern drives store the last 5-10 faults with the drive state at the time (running, accelerating, decelerating, stopped). An overcurrent fault that occurs only during acceleration points to incorrect motor data or mechanical binding. The same fault during deceleration suggests regeneration issues. A ground fault that clears after disconnecting the motor and returns when reconnected means the motor or cable insulation has failed.
Prevention: Schedule annual infrared scanning of drive cabinets. Loose power connections and failing capacitors produce heat long before they cause faults. A 5-minute scan can prevent hours of unplanned downtime.
Before ordering, match the drive part to the model number, electrical rating, and failure symptom. Check current prices on Amazon - prices and availability change frequently.
Phase imbalance from the utility supply requires contacting the utility or a licensed electrician to investigate the power system. Single-phase loss events that repeatedly blow fuses indicate a fault in the upstream distribution system requiring a qualified electrician.
