Common VFD, drive, UPS, and cabinet overheating failure point.
Useful to price when faults involve display, keypad, or operator-panel behavior.
Low-cost first check for power-stage and line-side faults.
Price this on drive overvoltage, braking, or deceleration faults.
The Hypertherm Powermax 45 (and 45 XP) is one of the most widely used plasma cutters in fabrication shops and field service. It uses a fault code system displayed on the front panel LED to indicate problems. Fault codes appear as two-part numbers (e.g., 0-30, 0-50, 0-70).
| Code | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 0-30 | Shield missing or consumable fault |
| 0-50 | No arc transfer |
| 0-70 | DC bus undervoltage |
| 0-10 | Overcurrent |
| 0-20 | Input phase loss (three-phase units) |
Most common Powermax fault. Power off and inspect the torch — missing shield, damaged nozzle, worn electrode, or wrong consumable part numbers for the amperage setting. Reassemble carefully. Hand-tighten the shield cup only.
The pilot arc fired but didn’t transfer to the workpiece. Causes: work clamp not on the workpiece (clamp on the table, not the part), gap too large (torch too far from metal), or severely worn consumables.
Input voltage too low. Check supply voltage at the machine under load. Eliminate extension cords. On generator power, verify the generator regulation is stable.
Torch directly shorted to workpiece or consumables arc-through on thick material. Clear any short and inspect consumables.
| Part | Notes |
|---|---|
| Electrode | Replace when pit depth exceeds 1/16” |
| Nozzle | Replace when orifice is eroded |
| Shield cup | Replace if cracked or threads are damaged |
| Work clamp / lead | Replace if damaged |
Before ordering, match the replacement part to the model number, electrical rating, and failure symptom. Check current prices on Amazon - prices and availability change frequently.
0-70 or 0-10 faults that persist with correct input voltage and new consumables indicate an internal power supply fault. Hypertherm authorized service handles internal component repair.
