A Whirlpool washer stuck on one cycle is usually waiting for a condition it never sees: enough water, a locked lid, a balanced load, a completed drain, or a motor shift. The display stage tells you where to start.
Avoid replacing the main control first. Most stuck-cycle calls come from fill, drain, balance, lid-lock, or actuator problems.

Fix Order
- Press Pause or Cancel once and note any code before resetting.
- Unplug the washer for one minute.
- Run a drain and spin cycle with a small balanced load.
- Check both water valves and clean the inlet screens.
- Inspect the drain hose for kinks or a standpipe inserted too deeply.
- Listen for the lid lock. A failed lock can stop spin or cycle advance.
- On top-load models, test the shift actuator if the washer agitates but will not spin, or spins but will not agitate.
When to Call Service
Call service if the washer hums without moving, repeatedly locks and unlocks, trips the outlet, or will not enter diagnostics. Control-board replacement should come after the stage-specific parts test bad.
