When a Samsung refrigerator water dispenser stops working, you are dealing with a symptom rather than a fault code. Samsung support documents treat this as a flow or input problem and direct you to check control lock status, water selection, door position, filter condition, water supply, and line routing before considering component failure.

Most service calls for this complaint resolve without replacing parts. The dispenser itself is trying to work but cannot deliver water because of a lock setting, a restriction in the filter or supply line, air in the system after installation, or a door that is open or missing its water coupling. Component-level failure (inlet valve, dispenser switch, or frozen door tube) is less common but becomes the focus after you rule out the simpler causes.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Press and hold the Control Lock button (often labeled with a lock icon) for 3 seconds to unlock the dispenser, then press Water on the control panel to select water mode.
  2. Close the refrigerator door fully if you have an external dispenser model, since many Samsung units disable the dispenser when the door is open.
  3. Remove the water filter and press the dispenser paddle. If water flows with the filter out, replace the filter and move to the next step.
  4. Check that the household water shutoff valve is open, the supply line is connected at the wall and at the back of the refrigerator, and the door water coupling (above the hinge or at the top of the door) is seated if doors were removed for delivery or service.
  5. Purge air by holding the dispenser paddle continuously for up to 5 minutes. Samsung says 2 to 3 gallons may be needed before the stream steadies, especially after a new filter or line work.
  6. Inspect the water line behind the unit and inside the door for kinks, sharp bends, or frost. On RS27T and RS22T models, verify that the two water lines were not cross-connected during installation.
  7. Press the dispenser paddle and listen for a humming sound. Humming indicates the dispenser circuit is energized. Use a multimeter to test the dispenser switch for continuity if you hear nothing.
  8. Test the water inlet valve (usually at the back lower corner) for proper operation if supply, filter, and line routing are confirmed good and you still have no flow.
