Most Common Codes
E1-01: Indoor PCB Fault
The indoor control board has reported an internal fault. Before replacing the board, disconnect power for 10 minutes (full capacitor discharge) and restore. If the fault returns immediately, the PCB needs replacement. Samsung indoor boards are model-specific — order using the unit’s model number from the nameplate.
E2-01 / E2-02: Thermistor Fault
Indoor room temperature sensor or indoor coil sensor failure. On Samsung Wind-Free units, these sensors are mounted in the indoor unit chassis and accessible after removing the front panel and filter. Re-seat the thermistor connector first. Typical resistance is 5–15 kΩ depending on temperature. Replace if out of range.
E4-01: High Pressure Protection
High refrigerant pressure tripped the safety switch. Causes: dirty outdoor coil (most common in summer), outdoor fan not running, refrigerant overcharge, or ambient temp too high. Clean the outdoor unit coil with water and coil cleaner, rinse from inside out.
E4-02: Low Pressure Protection
The system has lost refrigerant charge or the expansion valve is partially blocked. A technician needs to check system pressures and leak-test the system. Continuing to operate with low refrigerant charge damages the compressor.
E7-01: Indoor-Outdoor Communication
Verify the 3-wire signal cable connections at both the indoor and outdoor terminal blocks. Samsung uses a polarity-sensitive signal wire on most models — wire 1 is ground, wire 2 is 220V neutral, wire 3 is signal/communication. Reversing wires 2 and 3 prevents communication.
E9-01: Drain Float Fault
The drain pan float switch activated — water level is too high. Vacuum out the drain line from the outdoor drain outlet, then clear any blockage at the drain pan inside the indoor unit. Samsung Wind-Free units use a shallow drain pan that fills quickly when the drain line is partially blocked.
Step-by-Step: Clearing E4-01 (High Pressure)
- Turn off the mini-split at the thermostat/remote.
- Inspect the outdoor unit coil — if visibly dirty with debris, leaves, or cottonwood, it needs cleaning.
- Rinse the coil with a garden hose from inside out (spray from the center fin area outward).
- Allow the coil to dry and the system to cool for 10 minutes.
- Restore power and verify the outdoor fan spins freely and at full speed.
- If the error returns on a clean coil, contact a technician to check refrigerant charge.
