- Remove the front panel and filter — Open the indoor unit and pull the air filter. Inspect the scroll fan wheel (the cylindrical cross-flow blower). If it’s heavily coated with dust or mold, proceed to cleaning.
- Clean the fan wheel — Use an HVAC coil cleaner or foaming cleaner and a soft brush. Work the cleaner between the blades and allow it to drain through the condensate pan. Rinse and allow to dry fully.
- Spin the fan manually — With power off, gently rotate the fan wheel by hand. It should spin freely. Stiff rotation indicates bearing wear; the motor assembly needs replacement.
- Power-cycle the indoor unit — Turn off the circuit breaker for 5 minutes, restore, and retry. If E3-01 clears after cleaning, the issue was a dirty fan causing motor overload.
