Maytag Oven Won’t Stop Beeping — What’s Happening

Continuous beeping in a Maytag oven is an audible alarm triggered by specific fault conditions. If the display shows PO or PF, the oven lost power and needs a reset. If you see a lock icon, the Control Lock feature is active. If a temperature error code appears (like F1, F2, or a sensor fault), the oven detected a problem with the temperature sensor reading outside safe limits. Sometimes there is no code at all, which usually means something is pressing on the control panel or the control board itself has failed.

The beeping will not stop until you either clear the fault condition or reset the oven’s memory. Most of the time, this is a sensor issue or a simple power glitch that needs a breaker reset.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Turn off the dedicated circuit breaker for the oven for 5 minutes, then turn it back on to clear the fault memory and see if the beeping stops.
  2. Check the display for any error codes (PO, PF, F1, F2, or temperature sensor messages) and write them down.
  3. Clean the entire control panel with a degreaser and remove any objects or debris that might be pressing on the touchpad.
  4. If a lock icon is displayed, press and hold the Control Lock button (or the designated key combination in your manual) for 3 seconds to disable it.
  5. Unplug the oven, locate the temperature sensor rod at the back top of the oven cavity, and disconnect the sensor wires from the control board.
  6. Use a multimeter to measure resistance across the sensor terminals at room temperature (should read 1000 to 1100 Ohms for standard Maytag sensors).
  7. If the sensor reads open (infinite resistance), shorted (zero resistance), or far outside the 1000 to 1100 Ohm range, replace the sensor.
  8. If the sensor tests good and the beeping continues after reconnecting power, the control board is likely faulty and needs replacement.

Parts You Might Need

PartNotes
Oven Temperature SensorAmazon | Rod-style thermistor, should read 1000-1100 Ohms at room temp
Electronic Control BoardAmazon | Main processor board, replace if sensor tests good but beeping persists
Gas Oven Safety ValveAmazon | Gas models only, controls gas flow and safety shutoff

If your appliance also shows a code on the display, these match this problem:

When to Call a Pro

Call a technician if the beeping continues after a breaker reset and control panel cleaning, or if you are not comfortable working with electrical testing. Gas oven issues involving the regulator or safety valve should always be handled by a qualified pro due to gas safety risks. If you replaced the sensor and the alarm persists, the control board likely needs professional diagnosis and replacement, which requires matching the correct part to your model and handling live electrical connections. For gas line, burner, or igniter work, or if you ever smell gas, stop and call a licensed technician.
