Maytag Oven F1 Error Code - Causes & Fix

3 min read
⚡ Quick Answer

F1 signals a fault in the oven temperature sensor or control circuit. Most often fixed by replacing the temperature sensor or checking wiring.

Maytag Oven F1 Error Code — What It Means

The F1 error on a Maytag oven indicates a problem in the oven temperature sensing or control circuit. Maytag’s official documentation points to three possible sources: the oven temperature sensor itself, the electronic control board, or the wiring and connectors linking them. If your display shows F1-A instead, that is a different fault related to the door latch or door lock switch circuit, not the temperature sensor. A plain F1 does not mean the keypad has failed. It means the control has detected an out-of-range or missing signal from the temperature sensor circuit.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Shut off power at the circuit breaker for at least one minute, then restore power and check whether the fault clears and stays away during a test bake.
  2. Confirm the exact code: if the display shows F1-A, inspect the door latch and door lock switch circuit instead of the temperature sensor.
  3. Inspect the oven temperature sensor at the rear wall of the oven cavity and trace its wire to the control board connector, looking for heat damage, corrosion, or loose pins.
  4. Disconnect power and test the sensor resistance at room temperature with a multimeter if you have the specification for your model, or replace the sensor if the wiring and connectors look good.
  5. Check all inline connectors between the sensor harness and the control board for tightness and clean contact.
  6. Replace the control board only after confirming the sensor and all wiring test within range, since the control is listed by Maytag as a possible cause.
  7. Reset and test by running a bake cycle at 350 °F for 15 minutes to verify the fault does not return.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Oven temperature sensorAmazon | Match the part number to your exact Maytag model; sensors vary by series.
Oven control board / electronic controlAmazon | Required only if sensor and wiring both test good; verify your model number before ordering.
Door lock switch or latch assemblyAmazon | For F1-A faults only; includes the micro-switch and latch mechanism.

When to Call a Pro

Call a qualified appliance technician if you are not comfortable working inside a 240-volt appliance, if the fault returns immediately after a power reset, or if you do not have the service literature with the correct sensor resistance specification for your model. Technicians carry the voltage and resistance tables, have the correct replacement boards and sensors in stock, and can quickly isolate whether the control board has a stored fault or a real sensor failure. If the F1 code appears during a self-clean cycle or if your oven also displays F1-A and the door will not unlock, professional service is the safest route.
