Common temperature-sensing fault part. Confirm resistance range and connector.
Useful to price for airflow, warm cabinet, or coil-icing symptoms.
Check this on ice buildup and defrost-cycle failures.
Low-risk maintenance item for water-flow and ice-quality complaints.
Manitowoc error code 2 (or “Code 2” on older models, “2” on the LED display) means harvest timeout — the machine’s harvest cycle exceeded the maximum allowed time. On Manitowoc Q-series, S-series, and Indigo cubers and flakers, the control times the harvest sequence. If ice doesn’t release from the evaporator within the programmed maximum (typically 3.5–4 minutes), the board shuts down with code 2 to prevent water damage and protect the refrigeration system. Code 2 is almost always refrigeration-related: either not enough heat available for harvest or a refrigerant problem preventing proper hot gas delivery.
| Part | Notes |
|---|---|
| Harvest valve (hot gas solenoid) | Must be OEM for Manitowoc; aftermarket valves frequently cause new code 2 issues |
| Manitowoc ACE 5 cleaner | Specifically formulated for Manitowoc; descales and sanitizes |
| Condenser fan motor | Replace if fan isn’t running at full speed |
When diagnosing commercial refrigeration faults, start with the controller’s alarm history. Most digital controllers (Dixell, Carel, Eliwell) store the last 5-10 alarms with timestamps. An E1 alarm that appears consistently every few hours suggests a sensor going bad — the resistance value drifts until it’s out of range. An intermittent HI/LO alarm that appears only during hot afternoons suggests a condenser issue, not a sensor fault.
Prevention: Schedule quarterly condenser coil cleaning. Dirty coils are the #1 cause of high-head-pressure faults and compressor overheating in commercial refrigeration. Use a soft brush and compressed air — never a pressure washer on the coil fins.
Before ordering, match the ice-machine part to the model number, electrical rating, and failure symptom. Check current prices on Amazon - prices and availability change frequently.
Refrigerant diagnosis and harvest valve replacement in the refrigeration circuit require an EPA 608-certified refrigeration technician. Don’t attempt to add refrigerant without first finding and fixing the leak.
