Filter search for maintenance intervals and water-quality faults.
Curtain-switch search for E-05 and 5-blink curtain faults.

Fan-motor search for high-temperature and airflow-related faults.
Manitowoc ice machines (Indigo Series, NEO, S-Series, and older Harmony models) use LED blink codes, digital displays, or the Manitowoc Display Module (MDM) to indicate faults. This guide covers all major error codes.
| Code | Series | Meaning | Quick Fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| E-01 | Indigo/NEO | High temperature — water | Check water temperature |
| E-02 | Indigo/NEO | Freeze cycle too long | Check refrigerant and water flow |
| E-03 | Indigo/NEO | Harvest cycle too long | Check harvest heater and water |
| E-04 | Indigo/NEO | High freeze time | Refrigerant issue or dirty condenser |
| E-05 | Indigo/NEO | Water curtain fault | Check water curtain and sensor |
| E-06 | Indigo/NEO | Communication fault | Check control board connections |
| E-07 | Indigo/NEO | Board fault | Replace control board |
| E-08 | Indigo/NEO | Ambient temp too high | Provide ventilation, check clearances |
| 2 Blinks | S-Series | Freeze cycle too long | Dirty condenser, low refrigerant |
| 3 Blinks | S-Series | Harvest too long | Harvest heater or water issue |
| 4 Blinks | S-Series | High water temperature | Check inlet water temp |
| 5 Blinks | S-Series | Water curtain fault | Inspect curtain and switch |
The ice formation cycle exceeded the maximum time limit. This is the most common Manitowoc fault and points to: dirty condenser coils (air-cooled), high entering water temperature, low refrigerant charge, or scale buildup on the evaporator. Start by cleaning the condenser. If condenser is clean, check subcooling and superheat.
Harvest is taking too long. The ice slab is not releasing from the evaporator within the time limit. Check: harvest heater operation, water inlet temperature (warm water helps harvest), water distribution over evaporator, and ice thickness setting.
The water curtain (the plastic flap that prevents ice from sliding into the bin during harvest) is not triggering the curtain switch at the correct time. Check:

When diagnosing commercial refrigeration faults, start with the controller’s alarm history. Most digital controllers (Dixell, Carel, Eliwell) store the last 5-10 alarms with timestamps. An E1 alarm that appears consistently every few hours suggests a sensor going bad — the resistance value drifts until it’s out of range. An intermittent HI/LO alarm that appears only during hot afternoons suggests a condenser issue, not a sensor fault.
Prevention: Schedule quarterly condenser coil cleaning. Dirty coils are the #1 cause of high-head-pressure faults and compressor overheating in commercial refrigeration. Use a soft brush and compressed air — never a pressure washer on the coil fins.
Before ordering, match the ice-machine part to the model number, electrical rating, and failure symptom. Check current prices on Amazon - prices and availability change frequently.

Freeze-cycle-too-long faults such as E-02 or 2 blinks are common. Start with condenser cleaning, water flow, inlet water temperature, scale buildup, and refrigerant checks.
E-05 and 5-blink faults usually involve the water curtain, curtain switch, actuator, or switch wiring. Confirm the curtain moves freely before replacing the switch.
Call a qualified technician for sealed-system refrigerant work, recurring high-temperature faults, failed control boards, or any diagnosis that requires live electrical testing.
