What This Error Means
When the drain cycle runs, the washer’s pump should clear the tub within about 5 minutes. If it can’t — because the filter is clogged, the hose is obstructed, or the pump has failed — OE appears and the cycle stops.
Common Causes
- Clogged pump filter — Coins, hair ties, lint, and small fabric items collect in the filter. Very common on front-loaders.
- Kinked drain hose — The hose from the back of the machine to the standpipe can kink, especially if the machine is close to the wall.
- Drain hose too deep in standpipe — If inserted more than 6 inches, it creates a siphon effect.
- Slow or clogged household drain — A sluggish standpipe limits pump output.
- Failed drain pump — If the filter is clean and hose is clear, the pump motor has worn out.
Step-by-Step Fix

Locate the pump filter access panel. On LG front-loaders, it’s a small door at the bottom front of the machine, usually on the right side.

Drain the water first. Inside the access door there’s usually a small drain hose with a plug. Remove the plug into a pan or bucket to drain standing water slowly before opening the main filter.

Remove and clean the filter. Unscrew the cap counterclockwise. Remove all debris — coins, hair ties, lint. Rinse the filter under the faucet, scrub with a brush if needed.

Check the pump impeller. Reach into the filter housing and turn the impeller by hand. It should rotate freely. If jammed, remove the obstruction. If the impeller is cracked or broken, the pump needs replacement.

Check the drain hose. Trace the drain hose from the back of the machine to its termination point. No kinks, no sharp bends. The hose should only enter the standpipe 4–6 inches — not pushed all the way down.

Reinstall and run Drain+Spin. Reinstall the filter, close the access door, and run a Drain+Spin cycle to test.
