LG Washer LE Error Code - Causes & Fix

3 min read
⚡ Quick Answer

LE means the motor is overloaded and locked, so the tub won't spin. Usually caused by an overloaded wash or bad hall sensor.

LG Washer LE Error Code — What It Means

The LE error code on an LG washer means the motor has detected a locked or overloaded condition and the tub cannot spin normally. LG describes this as the motor being overloaded and locked, preventing proper operation. The washer stops the cycle to protect the motor from damage when it cannot turn the drum as expected.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Unplug the washer and wait 30 minutes to let the motor cool down and allow the control board to reset before attempting another cycle.
  2. Remove excess laundry from the drum and reduce the load size, then plug the washer back in and run a rinse and spin cycle to test if the error clears.
  3. Inspect the tub for obstructions by rotating the drum by hand with power off and looking for coins, buttons, or other foreign objects stuck between the drum and tub, then remove any debris with pliers or tweezers.
  4. Drain trapped water by powering the washer on, selecting a drain or no-spin cycle to empty the tub, then pause and unplug once the water is out.
  5. Test the hall sensor signal if the error returns every cycle by accessing the motor, applying power, and spinning the rotor by hand while measuring the hall sensor output with a multimeter (it should pulse up to about 10 VDC).
  6. Check stator winding resistance by disconnecting the motor harness and measuring resistance between stator pins 1-2, 2-3, and 1-3, which should read approximately 5 to 15 ohms on each pair.
  7. Inspect the motor wiring harness for damaged wires, corroded connectors, or loose pins between the motor and control board, and repair or replace the harness if faults are found.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
LG washer hall sensor (rotor position sensor)Amazon | Match to your model number. Test signal output before replacing.
LG washer stator assemblyAmazon | Required if resistance tests show open or shorted windings.
LG washer rotorAmazon | Replace if magnets are damaged or rotor shows physical wear.
LG washer motor wiring harnessAmazon | Use if connectors are corroded or wires are broken.

When to Call a Pro

Call a professional if the LE code returns after you have reduced the load and cleared obstructions, or if you are not comfortable working with live electrical tests. Component-level diagnosis requires a multimeter and safe access to the motor and control board connections. If hall sensor or stator testing is outside your skill level, or if multiple motor components test bad, a qualified appliance technician can diagnose the root cause and replace the correct parts without risking further damage to the washer.
