IE on an LG washer stands for “inlet error” — water didn’t enter the machine within the fill time limit. This is almost always a supply issue, not a washer problem. Check the valves and screens before assuming something is broken.

What This Error Means
At the start of a cycle, the washer opens its inlet valve and monitors the water level. If the tub doesn’t reach the target level within about 4 minutes, IE appears and the cycle stops.
Common Causes
- Supply valves not fully open — The hot and cold valves behind the machine partially closed
- Clogged inlet screens — Mineral deposits blocking the small mesh filters at the hose connections
- Kinked hose — A sharp bend in the inlet hose restricts flow
- Low water pressure — LG requires a minimum of 14.5 PSI (though 20+ PSI is better)
- Failed inlet valve — If supply checks out, the solenoid valve itself has failed
Step-by-Step Fix

Confirm both supply valves are fully open. Turn the hot and cold valves counterclockwise as far as they go.

Look for hose kinks. Pull the machine out a few inches and inspect both hoses. Straighten any sharp bends.

Clean the inlet screens — the fix in a majority of IE cases in hard water areas.
- Turn off both supply valves.
- Unscrew both hoses from the back of the machine (towels ready).
- Look into the ports on the machine — you’ll see small circular mesh screens.
- Pull them out with needle-nose pliers, rinse under the tap, scrub if needed.
- Press back in and reconnect hoses.

Test water pressure. If you suspect low pressure, attach a gauge to an outdoor hose bib. Below 14.5 PSI will cause IE.

Test the inlet valve. With the machine unplugged, test the solenoid with a multimeter. A working solenoid reads 500–1500 ohms. Infinite resistance means failure.
