LG Washer Door Boot Seal Replacement — What This Part Does

The door boot seal (also called a bellow gasket) is the large rubber seal that connects the wash tub to the front panel door opening on LG front-load washers. Its job is to keep water inside the drum during the wash cycle while allowing the tub to move freely on its suspension. The rubber is flexible enough to handle constant vibration and door opening cycles, but it still forms a watertight seal around the entire door perimeter.

The boot fails when the rubber tears from sharp objects in pockets, wears through from abrasion, or develops mold and slime that weakens the material. Physical damage from loading and unloading laundry is the most direct cause of leaks. Moisture trapped in the gasket folds promotes mildew buildup, and blocked drain passages in the seal area hold water that accelerates deterioration. If the spring clamps are not seated correctly or the boot is not aligned on the tub lip, the washer will leak even if the rubber itself is intact.

Signs It Needs Replacing

How to Replace It

  1. Unplug the washer from the wall outlet and turn off both hot and cold water supply valves to eliminate all power and water before starting.
  2. Open the washer door fully and locate the front spring clamp that holds the outer edge of the boot seal to the front panel opening.
  3. Pry the front spring clamp out of its groove using a flat-blade screwdriver, working around the perimeter until the clamp is free, then pull the outer lip of the gasket away from the front panel.
  4. Remove the screws securing the washer front panel (top and bottom) and lift or pull the panel off to access the inner boot attachment at the tub.
  5. Release the inner spring clamp from the tub lip using a screwdriver or clamp tool, working around the seal until the clamp is free, then pull the old boot seal completely off the tub.
  6. Clean the tub lip and front panel mounting surfaces of any residue, mold, or debris, and clear any drain tubes or passages in the seal area so water can drain back into the drum.
  7. Position the new door boot seal onto the tub lip first, aligning any locating marks or drain tube openings, then seat the inner bead fully around the tub and reinstall the inner spring clamp in its groove.
  8. Pull the outer lip of the new boot over the front panel opening, making sure the gasket is centered and not twisted, then snap the front spring clamp back into the outer groove all the way around.
  9. Reinstall the washer front panel, plug the unit back in, turn on the water valves, and run a rinse or quick wash cycle while inspecting the door area for leaks at the top, bottom, and drain tube location.

When to Call a Pro

Call a technician if you are not comfortable removing the front panel or handling the large spring clamps, or if the washer still leaks after you replace the boot and verify that both clamps are fully seated. Some models require additional disassembly or special clamp tools to access the tub-side attachment. If you find rust, cracks, or damage to the tub lip or front panel where the seal mounts, a pro can assess whether the washer cabinet needs repair before the new gasket will seal correctly.
