LG LDFN4542S Dishwasher Problems & Error Codes — Overview

The LG LDFN4542S is a front-control dishwasher that uses LG’s standard fault code system. The most frequent service calls involve IE water inlet errors, OE drain faults, and AE/E1 leak detection trips. LG built this model with an overfill float switch in the base pan that can take up to 48 hours to dry out and reset after activation, which catches a lot of owners off guard.

Reliability on this unit is average for the series. The inlet valve, drain pump, and door gasket are the wear items you’ll replace most often. LG requires household water pressure above 20 PSI for proper fill operation, and the unit will not tolerate leak-limiting hoses or kinked supply lines. Most IE and OE codes clear with basic supply and drain path cleanup, but recurring AE/E1 faults usually point to a real internal leak or a door seal problem.

Most Common Problems on This Model

Parts That Commonly Fail

PartNotes
Water inlet valveAmazon | Fails from sediment buildup or coil burnout, causing IE errors or slow fill
Drain pump assemblyAmazon | Jams from debris or motor burns out, triggering OE codes or continuous pumping
Door gasketAmazon | Tears, hardens, or swells over time, allowing internal leaks that trip AE/E1 codes
Overfill float switchAmazon | Sticks in tripped position after leak events, requires base pan drying to reset

When to Call a Pro

Call a tech if IE or OE codes persist after you have verified supply and drain paths are clear, if the unit trips AE/E1 repeatedly after drying and you cannot locate the leak source, or if you are not comfortable working with 120V wiring to test or replace the inlet valve, drain pump, or door latch assembly. Any internal leak that you cannot trace to the door gasket or a loose hose clamp inside the tub usually requires a technician to pull panels and pressure-test the sump and recirculation system. If the control board is not responding to input or the unit will not power on at all, that is also a service-level diagnosis.
