LG Dryer No Power — What’s Happening
When an LG dryer shows no power at all, the drum light will not come on when you open the door and the control panel stays completely dark. This is not usually a fault code. LG documents an nP code that means no current is being detected at the heater, but a dryer that will not turn on at all is treated as a power-supply or connection problem first, not an internal control failure.
LG says the most common causes are a tripped breaker, faulty outlet, home power outage, or a loose power cord connection. If basic external checks do not restore power, the unit may require repair service.
Most Likely Causes
- Tripped circuit breaker Electric dryers typically use two breakers, and if either trips the dryer loses power completely.
- Loose power cord connection The cord may be partially disconnected at the wall outlet or at the terminal block on the back of the dryer.
- Faulty electrical outlet or incomplete voltage The outlet may not be delivering the full 240 V required by the dryer rating plate.
- Home power outage or interruption A temporary loss of power in the home can leave the dryer off until power is restored and the unit is reset.
- Wall switch controlling the outlet turned off Some installations place a wall switch in series with the dryer outlet, and if that switch is off the dryer receives no power.
- Internal component failure requiring service If all external power checks pass, LG says the unit may require repair by a technician.
How to Diagnose and Fix
- Open the dryer door and check whether the drum light comes on. LG uses this as a quick indicator of whether low-voltage power is present.
- If the light is off, verify the power cord is pushed fully into the outlet and secured at the terminal block on the back of the dryer.
- Reset the circuit breaker by turning it off, waiting at least 10 seconds, then turning it back on. Remember that electric dryers typically use two breakers, so check both.
- Recheck the drum light and try to start a cycle.
- If still dead, perform LG’s hard reset by unplugging the dryer, holding the Power or Start button for 5 seconds, then holding the Play or Pause button for 5 seconds, reconnecting power, and testing again.
- If the drum light is on but the dryer will not start or shows nP, check the outlet voltage. LG advises having a licensed electrician verify the outlet is delivering 240 V as required.
- If the dryer still does not power on after all external checks, the unit requires service by a qualified technician.
Parts You Might Need
| Part | Notes |
|---|---|
| Power cord | Amazon | Three- or four-wire cord rated for 240 V, if the existing cord is damaged or does not match the outlet. |
| Circuit breaker | Amazon | Replacement breaker for the home panel if the existing breaker trips repeatedly or will not stay on. |

When to Call a Pro
If you have verified the breaker is on, the cord is secure, and the outlet is live but the dryer still shows no power, call a qualified appliance technician. LG says at that point the unit requires repair service. If you see the nP code or suspect incomplete voltage at the outlet, have a licensed electrician test the outlet before replacing any internal dryer components.
