LG Dryer dE Error Code - Causes & Fix

2 min read
⚡ Quick Answer

dE means the dryer cannot confirm the door is latched. The most common fix is replacing a worn door switch or a broken latch.

LG Dryer dE Error Code — What It Means

dE is a door error. The dryer senses that the door is open or not fully latched, so it will not start or it stops mid cycle.

Sometimes it is just a stuck filter or a bit of laundry caught in the door, but a repeat code usually points to the door switch or latch.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Reseat the lint filter and push it all the way down into its slot.
  2. Close the door firmly and check that no laundry is caught in the seal.
  3. Power cycle the dryer by unplugging it for one minute, then try a cycle again.
  4. Inspect the latch and strike for cracks and confirm the door clicks shut.
  5. Unplug and remove the front panel to reach the door switch behind the opening.
  6. Test the door switch for continuity as you press it, and replace it if it does not switch.
  7. Reassemble and start a cycle to confirm the dryer runs with the door closed.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
LG dryer door switch assemblyAmazon | Part 6601EL3001A fits many LG and Kenmore models, but confirm against your model.
LG dryer door latchAmazon | Replace if the latch or strike is cracked or worn.
LG dryer door hingeAmazon | Only needed if the door sags and throws off the latch alignment.

When to Call a Pro

Most dE repairs are within reach for a confident DIYer. If the switch and latch both test good and the door is aligned but dE keeps coming back, the wiring or control board may be at fault, and that is a good time to call an appliance pro.
