LG Dryer Main Control Board Replacement — What This Part Does
The main control board (main PCB) is the dryer’s central computer. It reads cycle selections from the display panel, switches power to the heating element through internal relays, starts and stops the drum motor, and communicates software and cycle data back to the display. The board handles 240 V incoming power and steps it down to control circuits that run the entire machine.
Boards fail from power surges, moisture infiltration around the control panel, or component wear after years of heat cycling. Loose power cord connections or tripped breakers at the home panel can mimic board failure, so you must rule out supply problems before replacing the PCB. LG’s nP (no power) fault points to breaker or wiring issues first, and E00 (display cannot read software from main PCB) indicates a board communication breakdown that survives a power reset.
Signs It Needs Replacing
- nP or no-power code after breaker reset and power-cord checks pass The dryer shows nP even after you flip the 240 V breaker off and on and confirm the power cord is tight at the terminal block.
- E00 code returns after unplugging for 60 seconds The display throws E00 again within minutes of a cold restart, meaning the display PCB cannot read software from the main board.
- Control panel lights but drum or heat will not start The display and buttons respond, yet pressing Start does nothing or heat never comes on during a timed dry cycle.
- Outlet measures 240 V but dryer acts dead or cycles erratically You confirm about 240 V between the two hot legs at the wall with a multimeter, yet the dryer will not complete cycles or power up fully.
- Relay click but motor stays silent and voltage check shows 120 V at motor connector You hear the main board relay energize and measure about 120 V between the X2 brown wire and BL2 yellow connector, proving the board is sending start voltage but the motor does not spin.
- Burnt smell or visible scorch marks on the board housing You open the control console and see discolored solder joints, melted relay housings, or smell burnt plastic near the PCB.
How to Replace It
- Unplug the dryer power cord from the wall outlet or flip the 240 V double-pole breaker to the full-off position and wait 60 seconds.
- Pull the dryer forward from the wall and remove the screws securing the top panel, then lift and tilt the top back to expose the control console at the front.
- Remove the screws holding the control console cover (usually along the top edge or sides), then lift the cover off to reveal the main PCB mounted on the back of the display panel.
- Take a clear photograph of every wire-harness connector on the main board so you have a wiring reference, then label each connector with masking tape and a marker if needed.
- Disconnect all push-on wire harnesses from the main PCB by pulling straight off (do not twist), then unscrew the two or three mounting screws that secure the board to the plastic bracket.
- Lift the old main control board free and compare the board number printed on the component side to the replacement part number to confirm the match.
- Position the new main PCB onto the mounting bracket, fasten it with the original screws, and reconnect every wire harness to the same terminals shown in your reference photo.
- Replace the control console cover and secure it with screws, lower the dryer top panel back into place, and fasten the top-panel screws.
- Slide the dryer back to the wall, restore power at the breaker or plug in the cord, then run a short timed-dry cycle to verify the drum spins, heat activates, and no fault codes appear.

When to Call a Pro
Call a tech if you measure anything other than about 240 V between the hot legs at the outlet, if the terminal block shows burn marks or melted insulation, or if you are uncomfortable working inside a 240 V appliance. Wiring errors at the terminal block can create dangerous shorts or fire hazards. A qualified appliance tech will verify supply voltage, test internal relay outputs on the board with the dryer live, and confirm that upstream components like the thermal fuse and high-limit thermostat are not open before replacing the PCB. If the new board still throws nP or E00 after installation, internal wiring harnesses or the display PCB may also need replacement, which requires service-manual diagnostic steps.
