The Fujitsu E7 error code indicates a drain pump fault — the indoor unit detected that the condensate drain pump is not operating correctly or the condensate level has risen to the float switch trigger point. Fujitsu mini-splits with built-in or externally mounted condensate pumps use a float switch in the condensate pan; when the water level rises too high (pump failure or blocked drain), the float trips, E7 is stored, and the system shuts down to prevent water overflow damage. On units without a pump, E7 can indicate the condensate pan float switch has tripped due to a blocked gravity drain.
Common Causes
- Clogged condensate drain line — The most common cause; algae and debris plug the drain hose, water backs up, and the float switch trips.
- Failed condensate pump — The pump motor fails or the pump impeller jams, preventing drainage.
- Stuck or faulty float switch — The float switch sticks in the up position and trips E7 even when the pan is dry.
- Pump check valve failure — The one-way check valve in the pump outlet allows water to flow back into the pan; the pump runs but can’t empty the condensate.
Step-by-Step Fix
- Inspect the condensate pan — Remove the front panel and filter, then look at the drain pan under the evaporator coil. If water is visibly high, proceed to clearing the drain.
- Clear the drain line — Locate the drain outlet (usually a 3/4” tube exiting the indoor unit). Use a wet/dry vac to suction from the end of the drain line. Follow up with a cup of water mixed with bleach tablets to prevent algae regrowth.
- Test the condensate pump — If the unit has a separate pump box, listen for pump operation during cooling. No pump noise with water in the pan = test pump power (12–24V typically) and impeller movement.
- Check the float switch — With the pan dry and power off, locate the float switch inside the pan (a small plastic float with a wire). Lift the float manually — it should click and drop smoothly. A stuck float triggers E7 with a dry pan.
- Clear the pump check valve — Disconnect the pump outlet and check valve; blow through it to confirm it passes in one direction only. Replace if stuck open.
- Reset the system — After clearing the drain and pan, power off for 30 seconds and restore. Confirm E7 is cleared and run the unit in cooling mode for 30 minutes to verify drainage.
