Frigidaire Gas Range Spark Electrode Replacement — What This Part Does

The spark electrode creates the high-voltage spark that ignites gas at each surface burner. When you turn the knob, the spark module sends voltage through the electrode, which jumps the gap at the burner to light the gas. The ceramic insulator keeps the spark path isolated from the burner body.

Electrodes fail when the ceramic insulator cracks, the metal tip corrodes or breaks, or carbon tracking forms on the porcelain. Loose wire connections, misaligned burner parts, or a failed spark module can also prevent the spark from reaching the burner, but physical damage to the electrode itself is the most common reason for replacement.

Signs It Needs Replacing

How to Replace It

  1. Disconnect power to the range at the circuit breaker and shut off the gas supply valve.
  2. Remove the grates, burner caps, and burner heads from the cooktop to access the spark electrodes.
  3. Locate the electrode at the affected burner (a small white or tan ceramic rod with a metal tip and wire attached).
  4. Inspect the ceramic insulator for cracks, the metal tip for damage, and the wire connection for looseness or corrosion.
  5. If the electrode is damaged, pull the wire terminal off the electrode base or unscrew the mounting hardware holding the electrode to the burner platform.
  6. Install the new spark electrode in the same position, reconnect the wire terminal firmly, and verify the electrode tip protrudes through the correct opening in the burner base.
  7. Reinstall the burner heads, burner caps, and grates in their proper alignment so the electrode sits close to the burner opening.
  8. Restore gas and power, then test each burner to confirm all spark and ignite normally.
  9. If one or more burners still do not spark after electrode replacement, inspect the spark module and wiring harness for faults (module replacement is a separate repair best handled by a technician).

When to Call a Pro

If you have no spark at multiple burners after replacing damaged electrodes and checking all wire connections, the spark module is the likely culprit and module replacement involves working with the range’s high-voltage ignition circuit. Gas appliance repairs also carry risk of gas leaks if burner parts are incorrectly reassembled or the gas supply is not properly managed. A qualified appliance technician can diagnose spark module faults, test the ignition circuit safely, and confirm that all burner components are aligned and grounded correctly. For gas line, burner, or igniter work, or if you ever smell gas, stop and call a licensed technician.
