Frigidaire F20 Error Code - Causes & Fix

2 min read
⚡ Quick Answer

F20 means a communication error between control boards. Power-reset the range for 30 seconds; if it returns, check harness connections.

Difficulty Intermediate (DIY)
Est. time 15-60 min
Tools Multimeter , nut driver, screwdrivers

Frigidaire F20 Error Code — What It Means

The F20 error on Frigidaire electric ranges and ovens indicates a communication failure between the Electronic Oven Control (EOC) and other control boards, such as the Surface Element Control (ESEC) or User Interface Board. Frigidaire groups F3, F20, and F26 together as communication errors. This is not a temperature sensor fault. The error means the control boards cannot exchange data properly, which prevents the oven from operating normally.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Perform a power reset by unplugging the range or switching off the dedicated circuit breaker for at least 30 seconds, then restore power and check if the F20 code clears.
  2. Verify supply power by confirming the circuit breaker has not tripped and the range is receiving correct voltage at the wall outlet or junction box.
  3. Inspect all control-board harness connectors by removing power, pulling each connector at the EOC and companion boards, and checking for corrosion, heat damage, loose fit, or backed-out pins.
  4. Check the interconnect wiring between the EOC and the other control boards using your model’s wiring diagram, looking for cuts, pinches, or continuity breaks in the communication lines.
  5. Test by swapping or isolating boards if you have access to known-good components, or consult the service manual’s board-level diagnostics for your specific model.
  6. Replace the Electronic Oven Control (EOC) first if all wiring and connectors are intact and the code persists, as the EOC is the most common failed component in F20 errors.
  7. Replace the companion control board (UIB or ESEC) if a new EOC does not resolve the fault and your diagnostics point to the secondary board.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Electronic Oven Control (EOC) boardAmazon | Main control board; confirm your model number before ordering.
User Interface Board (UIB) or Surface Element Control Board (ESEC)Amazon | Companion control board; match to your range’s configuration.
Control board wiring harnessAmazon | If connectors or wires are damaged or melted; buy the interconnect harness specific to your model.

When to Call a Pro

Call a qualified appliance technician if the F20 code returns after a power reset and you are not comfortable working with live 240-volt circuits or removing control boards. Diagnosis requires interpreting wiring diagrams, testing low-voltage communication signals, and safely handling electronic components. If you have already replaced the EOC and the fault persists, a professional can trace the communication path with a multimeter and service documentation to identify the failed board or wiring fault.
