When your dryer stops mid-cycle and shows a code like E64 or E68, it’s usually trying to tell you that the heating element is broken or the control panel is stuck.

What This Error Means
Frigidaire uses “E” (Error) codes.
- E64: Heating element failure. The control board detected an open circuit in the heater.
- E68 / E66: Stuck button or temperature sensor error. The control board is getting a constant signal.
- E4A: Exceeded drying time. The clothes are still wet after a full cycle.
- E5B: No incoming power detected (on the L2 line).

Step-by-Step Fix
1. Resolving E64 (Heating Element Failure)
This is the most common “No Heat” error. The coil inside the heating element has likely snapped.
- Unplug the dryer.
- Remove the back panel of the dryer.
- Locate the Heating Element (a large metal box with wires).
- Use a multimeter to test for continuity. If the multimeter shows “0” or doesn’t beep, the element is broken.
- The Fix: Replace the heating element assembly. This is a 20-minute DIY repair with a screwdriver.
2. Fixing E68 (Stuck Button or Sensor)
This code usually means a button on the front panel is jammed or the control board is glitching.
- The Button Massage: Press every button on the control panel firmly several times to ensure none are stuck in the “down” position.
- The Power Cycle: Unplug the dryer for 5 full minutes. This allows the control board to reset.
- Clean the Panel: Use a dry cloth to wipe away any moisture or grease from the touch buttons.
3. Resolving E4A (Long Dry Time)
If your dryer runs but the clothes are still damp:
- Clean the Lint Vent: This is the #1 cause of E4A. Check the vent from the back of the dryer all the way to the outside wall. If it’s clogged with lint, the moist air can’t escape.
- Check the Moisture Sensor: Inside the dryer, near the lint filter, there are two metal strips. If they are covered in a film from dryer sheets, they can’t “feel” the wet clothes. Wipe them with a bit of rubbing alcohol.
4. Resolving E5B (Power Error)
- Dryers use two lines of 120V power (totaling 240V). If one fuse in your home’s breaker box has tripped, the dryer’s motor may run (120V) but it won’t heat (needs 240V).
- The Fix: Go to your home’s breaker panel and flip the dryer breaker all the way to OFF and then back to ON.
