Electrolux front-load washers are highly efficient, but they use sensitive pressure switches and flow meters that can easily trigger an error if the water supply or drainage isn’t perfect. When your washer stops with a code like E10 or E21, it’s usually just a simple clog in the filter or a kinked hose.
Most Electrolux washer errors are related to the flow of water into or out of the machine.
What This Error Means
Electrolux uses a standard “E” coding system.
- E10 / E11: These are “Water Fill” errors. The machine isn’t getting water fast enough.
- E20 / E21: These are “Water Drain” errors. The pump can’t get the water out of the drum.
- E40: The door is not locked or the sensor thinks it’s open.
- EF0 / EF1: The machine detects a leak or the drain filter is clogged.

Step-by-Step Fix
1. Resolving E11 (Water Fill Problem)
This happens when the washer can’t fill the drum within the allotted time (usually 5–8 minutes).
- Check the valves: Ensure both your hot and cold water shutoff valves at the wall are fully open.
- Clean the Inlet Screens: Turn off the water and unscrew the fill hoses from the back of the washer. Look inside the washer’s threaded inlets. You’ll see small mesh screens. Use pliers to pull them out and rinse them under a faucet to remove sand or sediment.
- Check the Hoses: Ensure the hoses aren’t kinked behind the machine.
2. Fixing E21 (Drain Problem)
This is the most common Electrolux error. The washer is full of water and can’t spin because it can’t drain.
- Clean the Coin Trap / Drain Filter: Locate the small door at the bottom front of the washer.
- Place a shallow pan on the floor.
- Open the door and slowly unscrew the large plastic plug. Warning: Several gallons of water will come out!
- Once drained, pull the filter out. You’ll likely find coins, hairpins, or socks stuck inside.
- Clean the filter and the housing, then screw it back in tightly.
3. Resolving E40 / E41 (Door Errors)
- Ensure no clothes are hanging out of the door, preventing a tight seal.
- Clean the door gasket (the large gray rubber ring) with a damp cloth. If soap scum or hair builds up on the gasket, the door won’t seat correctly.
- If the error persists, the Door Latch Assembly (the part that clicks when you close it) has likely failed.
4. Resolving EF0 / EF1 (Leak or Suds Error)
- If you see “EF1,” you likely used too much detergent. The machine detects “oversudsing.”
- The Fix: Turn the machine off and let it sit for 2 hours for the suds to dissipate. Run a “Rinse & Spin” cycle with no detergent to clear the drum.
- Always use HE (High Efficiency) detergent and only fill to the first line.
