F8E1, sometimes shown as LO FL, means the washer is not detecting the correct amount of incoming water. The door locks and the machine runs a drain cycle while it waits for proper fill.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Confirm both hot and cold supply valves are fully open and both hoses are connected.
  2. Straighten any kinks in the fill hoses and remove any anti flood device that limits pressure.
  3. Shut off the water, unthread the hoses, and clean the inlet screens with a soft brush.
  4. Run water through each disconnected hose at a sink and replace any hose that flows weakly.
  5. Reconnect everything, restore power, and start a cycle to watch the fill.
  6. If fill is still weak, test the water inlet valve coils for continuity.
  7. Replace the water inlet valve if it tests bad or will not open under power.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Whirlpool washer water inlet valveAmazon | Match the part number to your model tag, since valve ports vary by model.
Washer fill hosesAmazon | Replace hoses that flow weakly or show cracks at the fittings.
Inlet valve screenAmazon | A few models offer replaceable screens if cleaning does not restore flow.

When to Call a Pro

If the valves, hoses, and screens are clear and a new inlet valve does not fix it, the pressure switch or control board may be the cause. Call a technician if you cannot safely test these parts.
