Simplex 4100 Fire Alarm Fault Codes — Quick Reference
The Simplex 4100ES and 4100U are large-capacity intelligent fire alarm control panels (FACP) used in hospitals, universities, and high-rise buildings. The TrueAlarm system uses addressable devices on IDC/SLC loops.

Simplex 4100 System Architecture
The 4100ES uses a distributed architecture with:

Most Common Faults
MAPNET Communication Failure
MAPNET II is Simplex’s proprietary signaling loop protocol. A MAPNET comm failure indicates the panel cannot communicate with one or more devices on the loop. Check loop wiring continuity. Verify the loop is properly terminated with the end-of-line device. Walk the loop and look for physical wiring damage.
Ground Fault
Ground faults on the 4100 display with the affected circuit identified. Disconnect the field wiring from the circuit terminals one section at a time while monitoring if the ground fault clears. The wiring section that causes the fault to clear is the faulted segment.
Battery Trouble
The 4100 performs periodic battery load tests. A battery trouble means the battery failed the load test or voltage is below 24V (on a 24VDC system). Conduct a manual load test. If the battery cannot hold voltage under load, replace it.
Navigating the 4100ES Display
The 4100ES has a touch-screen display with point-by-point fault information:
- Press the SYSTEM TROUBLE indicator
- Scroll through the trouble list — each entry shows the point label and trouble type
- Use the HISTORY screen for past events with timestamps
