Siemens Micromaster F0051 — What It Means

F0051 is a Parameter EEPROM Fault on Siemens Micromaster drives (MM420, MM440). The inverter cannot read or write to its internal non-volatile parameter memory. This is not a motor overload or wiring issue. The drive’s stored settings are corrupted or the memory hardware itself has failed, so the unit cannot reliably access the parameters it needs to operate.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Acknowledge and reset the fault using an OFF2 reset command (consult your BOP or HMI for the exact reset button or parameter).
  2. Power-cycle the drive completely by disconnecting AC input power for 30 seconds, then restore power and check if the fault clears.
  3. Perform a factory reset on the drive by setting P0010 = 30 (factory reset access level) and then P0970 = 1 to initiate the parameter reset.
  4. Re-enter all required drive parameters manually, or reload a saved parameter set if you have a backup file stored on a memory card or PC tool.
  5. Run the drive under load and monitor for the return of F0051 after reparameterization.
  6. If F0051 reappears after factory reset and full reparameterization, the internal EEPROM hardware has failed and the drive must be replaced.
  7. Document the fault history and parameter set before replacement to speed commissioning of the new unit.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Siemens Micromaster replacement drive (same model and frame size)Amazon | Required when F0051 persists after factory reset. Match your original model number (e.g. MM420, MM440) and power rating.
Parameter backup file or memory card (if supported)Amazon | Use to restore drive settings quickly after factory reset or drive replacement. Not all MM models have removable memory.

When to Call a Pro

Call a qualified drives technician or Siemens-authorized service partner if you are not trained to reset VFD parameters or do not have a backup of your original drive settings. If the fault returns after you complete a factory reset and re-enter parameters, the drive’s internal memory hardware has failed and professional replacement is required. Do not attempt board-level EEPROM repair in the field. Siemens documentation directs you to replace the entire inverter when F0051 is persistent.
