Samsung Microwave Control Board Replacement — What This Part Does

The user control and display board reads your button presses and displays cooking time and settings. The main control board interprets those signals and operates the magnetron, turntable, and timer. These boards fail from moisture infiltration, residue buildup around the keypad membrane, or electrical shorts in the ribbon cable connector between the touchpad and circuit board.

When a key sticks or the ribbon connector corrodes, the control board registers continuous phantom button presses and throws the SE or -SE- error code. Over time, heat cycling and kitchen humidity degrade the membrane switch contacts and solder joints on both boards.

Signs It Needs Replacing

How to Replace It

  1. Unplug the microwave from the wall outlet and wait 60 seconds to allow the high-voltage capacitor to discharge.
  2. Remove the screws securing the outer cabinet or control panel cover (locations vary by model, typically along the top and sides).
  3. Lift or slide the cover off to expose the control board mounted behind the touchpad assembly.
  4. Photograph the ribbon cable orientation and connector positions before disconnecting anything.
  5. Gently release the locking tab or clip on the ribbon cable connector and pull the flat cable straight out from the socket on the control board.
  6. Inspect the ribbon cable contacts and connector pins for corrosion, burn marks, or bent pins; clean with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth if contamination is present, then reconnect and test before replacing any board.
  7. If cleaning does not resolve the fault, disconnect the ribbon cable again and remove the mounting screws holding the faulty board (user control and display board or main control board) to the chassis.
  8. Install the new board in the same orientation, secure it with screws, reconnect the ribbon cable and all wire harness connectors (match your photos), and verify each connector seats fully with an audible click.
  9. Reinstall the cabinet cover, restore power, and run a brief heating test to confirm the error code is gone and all buttons respond correctly.

The Part You Need

PartNotes
Samsung microwave user control and display board (touchpad assembly)Amazon | If the fault isolates to the keypad. Check the model and serial number on the label inside the door frame or on the back panel, then search that model number plus “control board” or “touchpad” to find the correct part number for your unit.
Samsung microwave main control board (main PCB)Amazon | If the SE error persists with the touchpad disconnected or after ribbon cable cleaning. Use your model number from the rating plate to match the exact board revision.
Ribbon cable (flat-flex connector cable)Amazon | If the cable shows visible damage, burn marks, or torn traces. Order by model number; some cables are sold separately, others come integrated with the touchpad assembly.

When to Call a Pro

Call a qualified appliance technician if you are uncomfortable working inside the microwave cabinet, if the high-voltage capacitor is not visibly discharged, or if the error code returns after you’ve replaced both the user control board and main control board. Microwaves store lethal high voltage even when unplugged, and incorrect reassembly can create shock or fire hazards. Professional diagnosis with a multimeter can also isolate whether the magnetron, high-voltage transformer, or door interlock switches are contributing to the fault.
