⚡ Quick Answer

E3 means internal components cannot communicate. Power reset first: turn off 60 seconds, then retry. Check for stuck buttons.

Samsung Dryer E3 Error Code — What It Means

The E3 error code (sometimes shown as 1 AC) on Samsung dryers indicates the internal components cannot communicate with each other. This is a control and communication fault, not a motor, heater, or airflow problem. Samsung’s own support documentation defines it as a failure of the dryer’s control system to talk to its other internal parts.

Most E3 faults stem from a temporary control glitch, improper electrical supply, or a stuck button on the control panel. The code does not point to a specific sensor reading or physical blockage. Instead, it tells you the electronic control loop has been interrupted.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Turn off power for 60 seconds. Unplug the dryer or flip its dedicated breaker, wait a full minute, then restore power and try a new cycle to see if the glitch clears.
  2. Verify dedicated circuit and voltage. Confirm the dryer is plugged directly into its own outlet (no extension cords or multi-outlet adapters) and that an electric model receives the correct voltage at the wall.
  3. Press and release every button on the control panel. With the dryer off, individually test each key, especially the corners and edges, to find any button that sticks down or feels mushy.
  4. Inspect the wiring harness between the main control board and the user interface. Remove the top or rear service panel, locate the multi-pin connector that joins the two boards, unplug it, check for corrosion or bent pins, then reseat firmly.
  5. Check the main control board for visible damage. Look for burn marks, swollen capacitors, or cracked solder joints on the board mounted behind the control panel or inside the console.
  6. Run a diagnostic cycle if your model supports it. Consult your service manual for the button sequence to enter test mode, then watch for additional fault codes that narrow the communication break.
  7. Replace the main control board or user-interface assembly as indicated. If the error persists after resets, supply checks, and connector service, swap the board that Samsung’s model-specific diagnostics identify as the source.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Main control board (electronic control PCB)Amazon | Required when communication fault persists after all resets and harness checks. Match your model and serial number exactly.
User interface / control panel assemblyAmazon | Needed if one or more buttons are stuck or if the display itself is unresponsive. Often sold as a complete panel with membrane switches.
Wiring harness (control-to-UI interconnect)Amazon | Order only if connector housing is cracked or wires are frayed. Most harness issues can be solved by cleaning and reseating existing connectors.

When to Call a Pro

Call a qualified appliance technician if the E3 code returns after you have completed a full power reset, verified dedicated electrical supply, tested every button, and reseated all harness connectors. Control-board-level diagnosis often requires a multimeter, service-mode access, and model-specific schematics that are not published in owner manuals. If you are uncomfortable working inside a 240 V electric dryer or if your dryer is still under warranty, professional service is the safer and often more cost-effective choice.
