Samsung Dishwasher LE Error Code - Causes & Fix

3 min read
⚡ Quick Answer

LE (or LC) means your Samsung dishwasher detected water in the base pan or leak sensor zone. Most often fixed by finding and repairing the leak, then drying the pan and resetting.

Samsung Dishwasher LE Error Code — What It Means

The LE error code (sometimes displayed as LC) indicates that your Samsung dishwasher has detected moisture or water in the base pan under the tub, where it should not be. This is a leak-detection fault, not a motor or load problem. The dishwasher uses a sensor in the lower chassis area to monitor for leaks. When water or enough moisture is present, the unit halts operation and displays the code to prevent further flooding or damage.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Turn off power and water by unplugging the dishwasher and closing the shut-off valve under the sink to prevent additional leakage during inspection.
  2. Pull the unit forward and inspect all visible hose connections, the supply line, drain hose, pump area, and the floor under the dishwasher for signs of water, stains, or mineral deposits.
  3. Tip the dishwasher back slightly (with help) and check the base pan underneath for standing water or dampness. Use towels or a wet-dry vacuum to remove all moisture and dry the sensor and pan completely.
  4. Examine the door gasket for tears, deformation, or debris that would prevent a tight seal. Clean the gasket and door edge, or replace the seal if damaged.
  5. Verify the water inlet valve is fully open and inspect the inlet screen for clogs or debris that could affect water flow or cause pressure issues.
  6. Reconnect power and run a short test cycle after drying everything and confirming no visible leaks. If the code reappears immediately, check sensor connectors for moisture or corrosion.
  7. Replace the identified faulty component such as the leak sensor, door gasket, or leaking hose. If the code persists after all leak sources are repaired and the unit is bone dry, the control board may need replacement.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Leak Sensor (Base Pan Moisture Sensor)Amazon | Replace if wet, corroded, or code returns after drying and no leak is found.
Door Gasket / Door SealAmazon | Choose the gasket that matches your exact Samsung dishwasher model number.
Drain Hose and ClampsAmazon | Replace if cracked, kinked, or fittings are loose and leaking.
Water Supply HoseAmazon | Replace if connections are leaking or hose shows signs of wear or damage.

When to Call a Pro

Call a professional if you cannot locate any visible leak after thorough inspection, if the base pan and sensor are completely dry but the code returns immediately, or if you are not comfortable tilting the dishwasher or accessing internal components. A technician can test the sensor circuit, check for hidden leaks behind panels or at the pump, and verify control board function. Also call if you have repaired the leak and replaced the sensor but the LE code still appears after a hard power reset.
