Samsung Dishwasher 5C Error Code — What It Means

The 5C code (also shown as SC, 5E, or SE depending on generation) is a drain fault. The dishwasher tries to pump out water and the control sees that the level is not dropping as expected.

This is one of the most common Samsung codes and usually traces to a blocked filter, a clogged drain path, or a worn drain pump.

• Clogged drain pump impeller Glass, seeds, or debris jam the pump impeller so it cannot push water out.

• Blocked air gap or disposer plug A clogged air gap or an un-knocked-out disposer inlet stops the water from leaving.
• Drain hose set too high or too low Improper loop or standpipe depth lets water siphon back or fail to clear.
• Failed drain pump A burned-out or seized drain pump motor cannot move water even with a clear path.

Step-by-Step Fix

1. Cancel the cycle, then remove the bottom rack and lift out the filter assembly.
2. Wash the filter under running water and scrub the mesh with a soft brush to clear grease and food.
3. Scoop out standing water, then check the sump and drain pump area for glass or hard debris.
4. Disconnect the drain hose at the disposer or air gap and confirm it is clear and not kinked.
5. If you installed a new disposer, confirm the knockout plug was removed from the inlet.
6. Reset the dishwasher and run a rinse cycle to confirm it drains within a minute.
7. If water still will not clear with a clean path, test or replace the drain pump.
