RGF REME Halo LED Fault Codes — Quick Reference
The RGF REME Halo LED is an in-duct air purification system that uses UV-C light and a proprietary PHI (Photo Hydro Ionization) cell to reduce airborne contaminants. The unit communicates status through LED indicators on its housing. There are no numeric fault codes — status is conveyed by LED color and flash pattern.

Most Common Issues
Red LED — Cell End of Life
The most common status change on a REME Halo LED is the solid red indicator, which means the PHI (Photo Hydro Ionization) cell has reached end of life and is no longer producing effective levels of ionized hydrogen peroxide. The cell typically lasts 2 years or approximately 18,000 operating hours. Replace the PHI cell promptly — the unit is still powered but is no longer providing air purification when the cell is expired.
Cell Replacement Procedure:
- Turn off the air handler/furnace disconnect (the REME Halo is powered by the air handler’s 24VAC)
- Locate the REME Halo in the supply duct or air handler
- Slide out the PHI cell module (it typically slides out on rails from the side)
- Insert the new cell — it only fits one orientation
- Restore power — the LED should illuminate blue within 60 seconds
Flashing Red — Unit Fault
A flashing red LED indicates the unit has detected an operational fault beyond just cell aging. Check:
- Power supply: Verify 24VAC is present at the unit’s input terminals. The REME Halo requires 24VAC from the air handler or furnace.
- Wire connections: Inspect the low-voltage wire connections at the unit — a loose wire can cause intermittent power and trigger a fault state.
- UV lamp: The REME Halo LED uses UV-C LED emitters, not traditional UV lamps. If the LED array has failed, the unit will fault. This requires unit replacement.
No LED — No Power
If the LED is completely off, the unit is not powered. The REME Halo draws power from the air handler’s 24VAC accessory terminals. Check:
- The accessory power terminals on the air handler or furnace
- The 3-amp fuse on the air handler control board
- The low-voltage wire connections at the REME Halo
Yellow/Amber Flashing — Cell Warning
The amber flash pattern indicates the PHI cell has between 25% and 50% life remaining. This is an advisory — the unit is still operating normally. Order a replacement cell and plan to install it at the next routine HVAC service.
Installation Location Notes
- The REME Halo should be installed in the supply plenum downstream of the furnace/air handler
- Keep it at least 6 inches from the furnace’s heat exchanger outlet to avoid heat damage
- Do not install in return air — the unit is designed to distribute ionization into the supply air stream
