Maytag Washer F8E1 Error Code — What It Means
F8E1 (also shown as LF or LO FL) is a long-fill fault. The washer started a cycle but did not reach the target water level in the time the control expects, so it stops to protect itself.
In plain terms, water is trickling in or not coming in at all. The cause is almost always upstream of the drum at the supply, the inlet screens, or the water inlet valve.
Common Causes
- Water supply off or low One or both faucet valves behind the washer are partly closed or the home water pressure is low.
- Kinked or clogged fill hose A pinched hose or mineral buildup inside the hose chokes the flow into the machine.
- Clogged inlet screens The small screens behind the inlet valve trap sediment and scale and slowly starve the fill.
- Failed water inlet valve The solenoid valve that lets water in can stick or burn out and stop opening fully.
- Anti-flood hoses restricting flow Some flood-safe hoses trip early and cut the water the washer needs.
Step-by-Step Fix
- Confirm supply first. Open both hot and cold faucets fully and check that water actually runs at a nearby tap.
- Power cycle the washer. Unplug it for about 10 minutes, then plug it back in and retry a cycle.
- Inspect the fill hoses. Shut the faucets, remove the hoses, and look for kinks, crimps, or blockage.
- Clean the inlet screens. Check the small screens on the back of the inlet valve and brush off scale or debris without prying the screens out.
- Flush the hoses. Run water through each hose at a sink to confirm strong flow, and replace any hose that stays restricted.
- Test the valve. If supply, hoses, and screens are good but the tub still will not fill, the water inlet valve is the likely failed part.
- Replace the inlet valve. Match the valve to your exact model number, then reconnect hoses and run a rinse-and-spin to confirm a normal fill.
Parts Often Needed
| Part | Notes |
|---|---|
| Maytag washer water inlet valve | Amazon | Match to your full model number, plug and port count vary by model. |
| Washer fill hose set (hot and cold) | Amazon | Reinforced hoses are a cheap fix if an old hose is collapsing inside. |
| Inlet valve screen filter | Amazon | Only needed if the screen is damaged during cleaning, most clean and reuse. |
When to Call a Pro
If the supply, hoses, and screens all check out and a new inlet valve does not clear F8E1, the problem may be the pressure sensor or the main control board. Those calls for meter testing are a good time to bring in an appliance technician.
