F8 on an LG range means the oven meat probe circuit is shorted. Most often fixed by replacing the defective probe or its wiring harness.

LG Range F8 Error Code — What It Means

F8 is an oven meat probe error on LG ranges and ovens. The control has detected a circuit condition outside normal limits, almost always a short in the probe itself or in the wiring that connects it to the control board. The code can appear even when you are not actively using the probe, because the oven monitors the probe circuit whenever power is on.

Because the fault is electrical, the oven typically locks out or refuses to operate until the short is cleared. A simple power reset will clear the display temporarily, but the code will return if the underlying short remains.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Power-reset the range by pressing the Power ON/OFF button, then turn the circuit breaker off for 30 seconds and restore power to see if the code clears.
  2. Unplug the meat probe from its receptacle on the control panel or front of the oven and note whether the F8 code disappears after a brief wait or power cycle.
  3. Inspect the probe and connector for bent pins, burn marks, melted insulation, cracks, or any contamination in the jack, and clean or straighten as needed.
  4. Check the probe cord along its entire length for pinches, abrasions, or areas where the insulation has melted or worn through, exposing bare wire.
  5. Test the probe with a multimeter if you have the service manual resistance specification for your model, or replace the probe if it shows visible damage or if removing it cleared the code.
  6. Replace the probe wiring harness if the cord is melted, cut, or otherwise damaged and the problem persists after cleaning the receptacle.
  7. Call for service if the F8 code returns with a known-good probe disconnected or after you have replaced both the probe and harness, because the fault is then likely in the control board.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
LG oven meat probe / temperature probeAmazon | Match the plug style and cord length to your range model.
Oven probe wiring harnessAmazon | Order by model number if the cable between the probe jack and control is damaged.
Range main control board (EBR series)Amazon | Required only if the probe circuit on the board has failed and the code persists with good probe and harness.

When to Call a Pro

Call a technician if the F8 code returns immediately after a power reset even with the meat probe unplugged, because that points to a short in the internal harness or a fault on the control board itself. Also call for service if you are uncomfortable working inside the control-panel area or if you have already replaced the probe and external harness and the error remains. Any repair that requires removing the control board or tracing internal wiring should be left to a qualified appliance technician with the correct service manual and test equipment.
