LG Microwave Turntable Not Turning — What’s Happening

When the turntable in your LG microwave stops rotating, the drive path between the motor and the glass tray has been interrupted. The tray may not be seated correctly on the coupler (the rotating shaft), the roller guide underneath may be damaged or obstructed, or the turntable motor itself may have failed.

LG points to a small set of mechanical issues first. The glass plate must lock onto the coupler and sit flat on the roller guide. If either part is damaged, worn, or blocked by debris, the tray won’t turn. In a smaller number of cases, the motor has stopped working or the control board is not sending power to the motor.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Unplug the microwave before any inspection or handling of internal parts.
  2. Remove the glass tray, coupler, and roller guide, then clean all surfaces and the cavity floor to remove any debris.
  3. Inspect the coupler for cracks, rounding, or stripping, and replace it if damaged.
  4. Check the roller guide for broken wheels, cracks, or binding, and confirm it rolls smoothly on a flat surface.
  5. Reinstall the roller guide, coupler, and glass tray in the correct orientation, making sure the tray locks fully onto the coupler.
  6. Check the microwave settings to confirm the turntable function is not disabled (if your model has that option).
  7. If all mechanical parts are intact and installed correctly, access the bottom of the unit and locate the turntable motor.
  8. Test the motor by running the microwave and listening for motor operation, or replace the motor if it does not run or shows visible damage, then check wiring and the control board if the motor is not receiving power.

Parts You Might Need

PartNotes
Turntable motorAmazon | Drives the coupler and glass tray.
Coupler (shaft turn table)Amazon | Plastic part that connects motor to tray.
Roller guide (turntable assembly)Amazon | Supports and rolls the glass tray.

When to Call a Pro

If you have cleaned, reinstalled all parts correctly, and replaced the coupler and roller guide but the tray still does not turn, the turntable motor or control board is likely at fault. Motor replacement requires accessing the bottom of the microwave and working around high-voltage components. If you are not comfortable with that work or if the motor tests good but still does not receive power, contact an LG-authorized service technician for diagnosis and board-level repair.
