LG Dryer nP Error Code - Causes & Fix

2 min read
⚡ Quick Answer

nP means no current is reaching the heater, often from power supply or a blown thermal fuse. Fix the outlet first, then test the fuse.

LG Dryer nP Error Code — What It Means

nP means the dryer detects no current at the heater. On a 240 volt electric dryer this often points to a power supply problem at the outlet or breaker.

If the power supply checks out, the next suspects inside the dryer are a blown thermal fuse or a heating circuit that has gone open.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Reset the breaker by switching the dryer circuit fully off for ten seconds, then back on.
  2. Test the outlet with a meter to confirm both hot legs deliver about 240 volts.
  3. Unplug the dryer and check that the power cord is tight at the terminal block.
  4. Open the cabinet and find the thermal fuse near the heater housing.
  5. Test the thermal fuse for continuity and replace it if it reads open.
  6. Test the heating element for continuity and replace it if the coil is broken.
  7. Reassemble and run a heat cycle to confirm the heater draws current.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
LG dryer thermal fuseAmazon | Match to your model and clean the vent so the new fuse does not blow.
LG dryer heating elementAmazon | Replace if the element reads open on a meter.
LG dryer power cordAmazon | Use a 4-wire 240 volt cord rated for your outlet if the old one is damaged.

When to Call a Pro

If the wall outlet does not read a full 240 volts on both legs, stop and call a licensed electrician, since that is a house wiring problem and not a dryer fault. Hot or scorched outlet contacts also need an electrician before you run the dryer again.
