LG Dishwasher FE Error Code — What It Means
The FE code is an overfill error. The dishwasher sensed too much water in the tub and turned the drain pump on by itself to protect against flooding. The most common real cause is a water inlet valve stuck open, though oversudsing and a bad level sensor can also trip it.
Common Causes
- Stuck inlet valve A water inlet valve that fails to close keeps feeding water until the tub overfills.
- Oversudsing Hand dish soap or too much detergent creates foam that the unit reads as excess water.
- Faulty water level sensor A bad flow or pressure sensor reports a high level that is not really there.
- Unlevel install A dishwasher tilted off level pools water to one side and false-triggers the fill reading.
- Debris under the valve seat Grit holding the valve open slightly lets water seep in past the normal fill point.
- Control board glitch A board that keeps the valve energized too long forces an overfill.
Step-by-Step Fix
- Turn off the dishwasher and close the water supply valve under the sink right away
- Bail out and towel up any standing water in the tub
- Check whether hand soap or extra detergent caused a foam buildup
- Run one rinse-only cycle with no detergent to flush remaining suds
- Place a level inside the tub and shim the feet if the unit is tilted
- If water keeps entering with the cycle off, replace the stuck water inlet valve
- Restore the water, run a cycle, and confirm FE stays clear
Parts Often Needed
| Part | Notes |
|---|---|
| LG dishwasher water inlet valve | Amazon | Match to your model number, as a valve stuck open is the leading FE cause. |
| LG dishwasher flow sensor | Amazon | Replace if the valve is good but the unit still misreads the water level. |
| Dishwasher fill hose | Amazon | Inspect and swap if cracked or weeping at the valve connection. |
When to Call a Pro
If the valve closes properly and suds are ruled out but FE keeps coming back, the level sensor or control board needs testing. Because FE is a water-overflow code, do not keep running the unit. Have it checked before you risk cabinet or floor damage.
