KitchenAid Oven LOC Error Code — What It Means

LOC on a KitchenAid oven is not a failure code. It means the Control Lock feature is active. When control lock is on, LOC appears on the display whenever you press any command pad while the control is locked. The oven is designed to show this message to tell you the controls are intentionally disabled.

This is a user-activated safety state meant to prevent accidental changes or to keep children from operating the oven. KitchenAid designed the control to allow locking and unlocking only when the oven and timer are off. The display will clear as soon as you unlock the control using the correct button sequence.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Check that the oven and timer are off. KitchenAid requires both to be off before you can lock or unlock the control.
  2. Press and hold the START/ENTER button for 5 seconds. Listen for a tone, then watch the display for LOC to disappear, confirming the control is now unlocked.
  3. Test the touchpad. Press any command pad to verify the oven responds normally now that the lock is released.
  4. Turn off power at the breaker for 1 minute if LOC does not clear after the unlock attempt. Restore power and wait 1 minute for the display to stabilize.
  5. Repeat the unlock procedure after the power reset. Press and hold START/ENTER for 5 seconds and confirm LOC is gone.
  6. Consult your model’s owner’s manual if the display still shows LOC. Some KitchenAid models use a different button or combination to unlock the control.
  7. Inspect the control panel and keypad if the oven remains locked after following the manual. A stuck button or unresponsive touchpad may require a control board or interface replacement, but that is outside normal LOC behavior.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
User Interface Control BoardAmazon | Only needed if unlock procedure fails and touchpad is unresponsive or stuck.
Main Control Board (ERC)Amazon | Replace if the oven will not exit lock mode and the interface tests good.

When to Call a Pro

Call a professional if the LOC message will not clear after you have verified the oven and timer are off, held START/ENTER for 5 seconds, performed a full power reset, and consulted your owner’s manual for the correct unlock sequence. A technician can test the user interface and main control board to determine if a component has failed, but in the vast majority of cases LOC is simply a control lock that clears with the correct button press. If your touchpad feels sticky or other buttons do not respond even after unlocking, schedule a service call to inspect the control panel and wiring.
