Most Common Hussmann Walk-In Codes and Fixes
E1 — Temperature Sensor Fault
NTC air sensor open or shorted. Test resistance at room temperature (~10kΩ for standard 10k NTC). Open circuit = replace sensor. Check sensor lead routing for damage at coil access panels.
E2 — High Temperature
Product-threatening alarm. Check evaporator fans, coil frost level, condensing unit operation, and door seals immediately. On freezers, a failed defrost system causes progressive ice buildup that insulates the coil.
E3 — Defrost Fault
Defrost cycle ran past termination temperature or time limit. Check: defrost termination thermostat, defrost heater continuity, defrost drain for ice blockage. On hot gas defrost systems, check hot gas solenoid.
E4 — Fan Motor Alarm
Fan overload or failure. Check fan motor bearings, run capacitor (if single-phase motor), and verify correct rotation direction after any motor replacement.
E5 — Pressure Fault
High or low pressure cutout tripped. This is a sealed system fault requiring a certified refrigeration technician. Note which pressure (high or low) and check condensing unit first.
