- Check all registers — Walk every supply and return register in the building. Confirm all are fully open and not obstructed by furniture or rugs.
- Test the blower — Set the thermostat to Fan-On and feel airflow at registers. Weak airflow with a clean filter points to a blower issue.
- Check the run capacitor — Test capacitance with a capacitor meter. A capacitor 10–20% below rated µF will cause the blower to run under-speed; replace it.
- Test the high-limit switch — With power off, test continuity across the limit switch. It must be closed (continuous) at room temperature. If it reads open at room temp, replace the switch.
- Reset the system — Power off for 30 seconds, replace the filter if not done, restore power, and call for heat. Confirm the blower starts promptly and runs at full speed.
