Likely parts to price
Common VFD, drive, UPS, and cabinet overheating failure point.
Useful to price when faults involve display, keypad, or operator-panel behavior.
Low-cost first check for power-stage and line-side faults.
Price this on drive overvoltage, braking, or deceleration faults.
The Haas VF-2 is one of the most common vertical machining centers in North American shops. Most VF-2 alarm traffic falls into a handful of categories: servo following errors, tool changer faults, spindle drive faults, overtravel alarms, and operator setup mistakes. The exact alarm number matters, but the machine family has predictable patterns.
| Code | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 102/103/104 | Servo overcurrent or servo fault on X/Y/Z |
| 108 | No motion / axis servo problem |
| 120 | Tool changer fault |
| 123 | Turret or carousel fault |
| 134 | Spindle drive fault |
| 114/115 | Spindle overload / overheat |
| 1-6 | Overtravel alarms |
| 114 | Spindle overload |
| 437 | Servo overheat / amplifier issue |
| Part | Notes |
|---|---|
| Air regulator / dryer service | For recurring tool changer faults |
| Proximity sensors | Carousel and home sensors fail often enough to check early |
| Servo amplifier | For repeat axis drive alarms |
| Encoder cable | Intermittent motion faults |
| Way lube components | Binding and lube starvation drive servo alarms |
| Spindle drive belt or tooling | For overload and spindle complaints |
CNC alarms should always be diagnosed by reading the full alarm text, not just the number. Modern Fanuc, Haas, and Mazak controls provide detailed alarm descriptions — press the help key while viewing the alarm for diagnostic suggestions. The alarm history screen stores the last 50-100 alarms with timestamps; review this before clearing to identify patterns. A servo alarm (SV series on Fanuc) that appears only during rapid traverse points to a different cause than one that appears during cutting.
Prevention: Back up your CNC parameters monthly. Battery-backed memory faults are much easier to recover when you have a current parameter, ladder, offset, and macro backup. Replace control batteries on a planned maintenance schedule before voltage drops far enough to risk data loss.
Before ordering, match the machine-control part to the model number, electrical rating, and failure symptom. Check current prices on Amazon - prices and availability change frequently.
A VF-2 that has had a crash or repeated servo alarms deserves careful mechanical inspection before you keep resetting alarms. Shops lose more time by ignoring binding and then burning up an amplifier than by stopping early and checking the axis.
