GE Oven FD Error Code — What It Means
FD means the control sees a problem with the temperature probe circuit, which covers the meat probe, the probe receptacle, and the wiring between them. The probe lets the oven track food temperature, and a bad reading trips FD.
The quick test is to unplug the meat probe. If FD clears, the probe is the bad part. If it stays, the fault is in the receptacle, the jack wiring, or the control.
Common Causes
- Failed meat probe The probe element drifted out of range, room temperature resistance should be about 30 to 50 kohms.
- Dirty probe receptacle Moisture or residue in the receptacle bridges contacts and skews the reading.
- Worn probe receptacle The receptacle contacts loosened or corroded and lost a clean connection.
- Damaged jack wiring A broken or pinched wire in the probe jack harness breaks the circuit.
- Failed control board The control misreads a good probe and harness and still shows FD.
Step-by-Step Fix
- Let the oven cool, then unplug the meat probe and see if FD clears.
- If FD clears, the probe is bad, so replace the meat probe.
- Measure probe resistance at room temperature. Expect roughly 30 to 50 kohms.
- If FD stays with the probe out, cut power and inspect the receptacle for moisture or wear.
- Clean the receptacle, or replace it if the contacts look corroded or loose.
- Check the probe jack wire harness for damage and replace it if needed.
- If the probe, receptacle, and harness all test good, replace the control board as a last resort.
Parts Often Needed
| Part | Notes |
|---|---|
| GE oven meat probe | Amazon | Reads about 30 to 50 kohms cold, match the plug to your model. |
| GE oven probe receptacle or jack | Amazon | Replace if the contacts are corroded, worn, or wet. |
| GE oven probe jack wire harness | Amazon | Only if the jack wiring is broken or pinched. |
When to Call a Pro
If a new probe, a clean receptacle, and good wiring still leave FD on the display, the control board is the likely cause. Call a tech if you are not set up to test probe resistance or trace the jack wiring back to the board.
