GE Dishwasher C7 Error Code — What It Means

The C7 code reports that the dishwasher temperature sensor circuit has gone open or shorted. The control can no longer trust the water temperature reading.

The usual cause is a failed thermistor or a loose connection in its wiring. A bad main board is the less common cause.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Cut power at the breaker before opening the door panel or kickplate.
  2. Locate the temperature sensor near the heating element or behind the lower panel.
  3. Inspect the sensor plug and reseat any loose connections.
  4. Check the harness between the sensor and control for chafing or corrosion.
  5. Test the sensor for continuity and a sensible resistance reading with a meter.
  6. Replace the sensor if it reads open, shorted, or far out of range.
  7. Restore power and run a cycle to confirm C7 clears.

When to Call a Pro

If a new sensor and clean connections still show C7, the fault likely sits on the main control board. That swap is a sensible point to bring in a technician.
