Frigidaire Refrigerator Condenser Fan Motor Replacement Guide

4 min read
⚡ Quick Answer

Warm cabinet, compressor overheating, or no airflow at the back mean a failed condenser fan motor. Replacing the motor restores cooling.

Frigidaire Refrigerator Condenser Fan Motor Replacement Guide — What This Part Does

The condenser fan motor sits in the machine compartment next to the compressor and spins a blade to push air across the condenser coil. This airflow cools hot refrigerant vapor before it enters the evaporator, and it keeps the compressor from overheating. When the motor fails, refrigerant stays hot, cooling performance drops, and the compressor can run continuously or shut down on thermal overload.

Motors fail because internal windings burn out, bearings seize, or the rotor stops spinning under load. Loose or corroded wiring connections at the motor harness can also interrupt power. Frigidaire condenser fan motors run on 115 VAC at 60 Hz and typically draw 2 to 3 watts. Because the motor runs whenever the compressor runs, even a partial failure shows up fast as warm food or a hot cabinet back.

Signs It Needs Replacing

How to Replace It

  1. Unplug the refrigerator from the wall outlet and shut off the water supply line if your model has an icemaker or dispenser that will be in the way during rear panel removal.
  2. Pull the refrigerator away from the wall far enough to access the rear lower panel that covers the compressor compartment.
  3. Remove the screws or clips securing the rear access panel and lift the panel off to expose the compressor, condenser coil, and condenser fan motor assembly.
  4. Locate the condenser fan motor mounted on a bracket next to the compressor and note the two-wire harness connector plugged into the motor.
  5. Disconnect the wire harness from the motor by pulling the connector straight off the motor terminals.
  6. Pull the fan blade straight off the motor shaft or remove any retaining clip if present, taking care not to bend or damage the blade.
  7. Remove the mounting screws or bolts holding the motor bracket to the refrigerator frame and lift the old motor out.
  8. Mount the new motor in the same position, thread the screws or bolts, and tighten until the bracket is secure.
  9. Push the fan blade onto the new motor shaft until it seats fully, then plug the wire harness connector onto the motor terminals.
  10. Reinstall the rear access panel, reconnect the water line if you disconnected it, push the refrigerator back into position, and plug it in to verify the fan starts and runs smoothly.

The Part You Need

PartNotes
Frigidaire condenser fan motorAmazon | Look for part numbers 215501901, 242018304, or 242018301 depending on your model. Check the model and serial plate inside the fresh-food compartment or on the left interior wall to match your exact motor, which will be rated 115 VAC, 60 Hz, and between 2.2 W and 3.1 W.

When to Call a Pro

If you measure 120 VAC at the motor connector with a multimeter and the fan still does not run, the motor itself is bad and replacement is straightforward. If you do not have voltage at the connector, the problem is upstream in the wiring, relay, or control board, and that diagnosis requires tracing circuits and testing controls. Call a tech if you are not comfortable working with live voltage, if the compressor compartment has refrigerant leak stains or oil, or if the new motor does not start after installation because that points to a board or relay fault.
