Frigidaire Oven F91 Error Code — What It Means
F91 means the control tried to unlock the oven door more times than allowed and still failed. It is the next step up from F90, where one unlock timed out, and points to the same door latch system.
A worn latch motor or a binding lock cam is the usual cause. The control keeps retrying, runs out of attempts, and stops with F91.
Common Causes
- Worn door latch motor The lock motor is too weak to drive the cam to unlock across several tries.
- Binding lock cam or rod A jammed cam, rod, or spring blocks the latch on every attempt.
- Faulty latch switches A switch that never reports the unlocked state makes the control retry until it gives up.
- Damaged latch wiring An intermittent wire to the latch motor causes repeated failed attempts.
- Failed electronic oven control The EOC can misread the latch state and exhaust its retries even with a good latch.
Step-by-Step Fix
- Cut power at the breaker for 30 seconds, then restore it and let the control retry the unlock once.
- Open the door if possible and inspect the lock mechanism at the top front of the cavity.
- Pull the range out and remove the rear or top panel to reach the latch assembly.
- Cycle the latch motor and feel for binding or weak travel in the cam and rod.
- Test the latch switches and their wiring for continuity through the lock cycle.
- Replace the motor door latch assembly if the motor is weak or the switches fail.
- Replace the electronic oven control if the latch and switches all check out.
Parts Often Needed
| Part | Notes |
|---|---|
| Frigidaire oven door latch motor assembly | Amazon | Match to model, this is the common fix for repeated F91 failures. |

When to Call a Pro
Call a technician if the door will not open and the latch is out of reach, or if a new latch does not clear F91. A pro can release the lock safely and verify the control board.
