Your washer drains water through a pump that forces water out through a filter and then through the drain hose to your home’s standpipe or utility sink. Any blockage in this path — a clogged filter, a kinked hose, a blocked standpipe, or a failed pump — produces E20.

Step-by-Step Fix

Step 1 — Safety First

Unplug the washer before reaching into or under it. If the drum is full of water, water will spill when you open the filter — place old towels and a shallow baking pan or dish on the floor in front of the machine.

Step 2 — Clean the Drain Pump Filter

On Electrolux front-load washers, the pump filter is typically behind a small access flap at the bottom front of the machine.

1. Open the access flap (pry gently with a flathead screwdriver or fingernail).
2. You’ll see a small drain hose with a cap, and the filter cap next to it.
3. Use the small drain hose to drain residual water into your pan first — remove its cap slowly.
