Electrolux Dryer EF8 Error Code — What It Means

The EF8 error code on an Electrolux dryer indicates a stuck key or stuck button fault on the user interface. The control board detects that one of the panel buttons is being continuously held down, even if you are not touching it. This is usually caused by a physically stuck button, debris or moisture around the keypad, or a failed user interface board that falsely registers a keypress.

The dryer may beep repeatedly or refuse to start until the fault clears. In most cases, the problem is either mechanical contamination of the buttons or an internal failure in the control panel electronics.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Unplug the dryer from power at the wall outlet or turn off the circuit breaker, then wait two minutes for all capacitors to discharge.
  2. Inspect each button on the control panel closely, looking for any that appear stuck, depressed, or out of alignment compared to the others.
  3. Press and release each button ten to fifteen times to see if a stuck button frees up, and wipe around the edges of all buttons with a slightly damp cloth to remove any residue or buildup.
  4. Remove the control panel by unscrewing the mounting screws (usually along the top rear or inside the door frame) and tilting it forward to access the back of the user interface board.
  5. Inspect and reseat the wiring harness connectors on the back of the user interface and the main control board, checking for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins.
  6. Restore power and check if the EF8 code clears. If the code returns immediately and no button is physically stuck, the user interface assembly has failed internally and needs replacement.
  7. Replace the user interface assembly by disconnecting the harness, removing the mounting screws, installing the new panel, reconnecting all wiring, and running a test cycle to verify the code is gone.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
User interface assembly (control panel)Amazon | Match by your exact model number. This is the most common repair for persistent EF8 codes.
Main control boardAmazon | Only needed if the UI assembly tests good and the fault is traced to the main board falsely detecting a stuck key.

When to Call a Pro

Call a professional if you are not comfortable working with live electrical connections or disassembling the control panel. If you have replaced the user interface assembly and the EF8 code still appears, the fault may lie in the main control board or internal wiring, which requires diagnostic tools and schematic knowledge to trace. A qualified appliance technician can test continuity, inspect solder joints on the control boards, and verify that replacement parts match your specific dryer model and revision.
