Bosch Dishwasher Door Latch Replacement — What This Part Does
The door latch and lock assembly keeps the dishwasher door closed during operation and provides the safety interlock signal to the control board. When the latch engages, a microswitch or interlock contact closes to tell the control that the door is secure, allowing the unit to fill and run. If the latch mechanism breaks, wears out, or misaligns, the control does not see a valid door-closed signal and will not start a cycle or will stop mid-wash.
Bosch latch assemblies fail when plastic tabs crack, the microswitch inside the latch wears out, or the strike plate shifts out of alignment. Improper door panel installation after previous service can also throw off latch positioning. The latch body itself or the wiring connector can be damaged during normal use or forced door closing.
Signs It Needs Replacing
- Dishwasher will not start You press start but nothing happens because the control does not detect a door-closed signal from the latch assembly.
- Cycle stops mid-wash The dishwasher begins to run then stops and unlocks because the interlock contact is intermittent or the latch loses engagement.
- Door does not click or latch firmly The door feels loose when you close it or the latch does not engage with a solid click, indicating broken tabs or a worn actuator.
- Door pops open during operation The latch mechanism does not hold and the door releases under slight pressure or vibration.
- Control panel shows no response when door is closed The control stays dark or displays a standby state because the microswitch in the latch is not closing the safety circuit.
- Visible cracks or missing pieces on latch body You can see broken plastic tabs, cracks in the latch housing, or the latch actuator sits at an angle instead of straight.
How to Replace It
- Unplug the dishwasher or switch off the circuit breaker, then turn off the water supply valve under the sink.
- Open the dishwasher door and remove the screws securing the inner door panel or the frame around the latch area to access the latch assembly from inside the door.
- Locate the door latch or lock assembly mounted on the door frame or door opening module, and note the wiring harness plugged into the back of the latch.
- Disconnect the wire harness from the latch assembly by pressing the tab or release clip and pulling the connector straight off.
- Remove the mounting screws or release clips holding the latch assembly to the door frame, then pull the old latch out of its housing.
- If the strike plate or door catch is damaged or misaligned, remove it and replace it at the same time.
- Insert the new door latch or lock assembly into the mounting position, secure it with screws or clips, and verify that it sits flush and aligned with the strike on the opposite door edge.
- Reconnect the wiring harness to the new latch, making sure the connector seats fully and locks into place.
- Reassemble the inner door panel and tighten all screws, then restore power and water and close the door to test that it latches firmly and the dishwasher starts a cycle.

When to Call a Pro
If you are uncomfortable working inside the dishwasher door or if the new latch still does not register a door-closed signal after installation, call a technician. Intermittent faults can also be caused by control board issues or wiring harness damage elsewhere in the door, and a tech with a meter can verify continuity and interlock voltage to isolate the real cause.
