In most cases, F7 is a parameter configuration issue rather than a true motor overload condition.

- Motor NP Amps (P033) not programmed — The default value is the drive’s own rated current. If the motor FLA is lower than the drive rating, the overload model allows too much current before tripping — or trips too early depending on version.

- Motor running in a high-ambient environment — The motor’s actual thermal capacity is reduced by high ambient temperature; the drive’s thermal model doesn’t account for ambient unless configured.

- Verify P033 (Motor NP Amps) — In the Basic Parameters menu, confirm P033 is set to the motor nameplate full load amps. This is the most common cause of F7 on new installations and after drive replacement.
- Set A484 (OL Factor) — In the Advanced Parameters, confirm A484 matches the motor’s service factor (typically 1.0 or 1.15). Using 1.0 for a 1.15 SF motor causes nuisance trips.
- Measure actual motor current — Use a clamp meter on the motor output leads while running at full speed and normal load. Current above the nameplate FLA indicates a real overload.
- Inspect the mechanical load — If current is high, check the driven equipment. Manually rotate the load with power off. Any resistance, grinding, or tight spots indicates a mechanical fault (bearing, jam, belt tension).
- Clear the fault and monitor — Press Stop/Reset or cycle power. After the motor cools (allow 10–15 minutes), restart and monitor the drive’s output current via Parameter d002 (Output Amps).
